My original Daily Harvest review here.
I should start by saying, I don't love to cook. In fact, I'm quite lazy in the kitchen—I don't prep meals for the week. I buy a bunch of veggies thinking I will make meals, but most of the time I end up tossing them out after two weeks. I will cook and I am not bad at it, but I honestly don't enjoy cooking that much. But as a health-conscious family, I don't want to sacrifice a healthy & nutritional meal. So all in all, I prefer meal times to be healthy & uncomplicated. That’s where Daily Harvest comes in.
Daily Harvest isn't your typical food delivery company<. This plant-based food company offers over 90 different options, like Smoothies, Harvest Bowls, Soups, Flatbreads, and Bites, to get more fruits and vegetables in your diet. While each dish isn't necessarily a "meal," some are definitely filling enough for a light breakfast, lunch, or snack. I like to add protein to make it a full meal!
To get Daily Harvest delivered to your door, you first can select how many items you’d like and how often you’d like the deliveries. Next, you select your food from Daily Harvest’s selection of sweet and savory pre-prepped options. You can pause or stop your plan whenever your freezer gets full or want to take a break. I don't love all the food they offer but I have been a member for two years and have tried almost all their options. Leif and I primarily used their Smoothies, Soups, and Harvest Bowls. In fact, I purchased a freezer just to keep these yummies on hand! And we simply eat these by themselves but most of the time I always HACK it to turn the classics into something more enjoyable and satiating. Here are five Daily Harvest hacks:
The Mint + Cacao Smoothie is always in my freezer. It is made with Banana, Spinach, Cacao, Cashew, Chlorella, and Peppermint. I have a healthy addiction to this smoothie! Even my nephew, Zander loves it because it tastes just like a Mint Chocolate Chip Milkshake! It is a great way to get your kids to drink their greens. It is my go-to quickie breakfast smoothie because it makes the rush to get out the door a breeze. I just add my liquid of choice and blend! After a smoothie, I feel satisfied until lunchtime and don’t have binge cravings. They taste like real fruits, not artificial flavors. While bananas and spinach are the base of many smoothies, they are not dominant flavors.
SMOOTHIE HACK: I use hemp milk, add extra spinach, a scoop of protein powder, a sprinkle of inulin powder to amp up fiber, and add a couple of drops of Monkfruit for a little extra sweetness.
Whenever I am craving pizza/flatbreads, I go for a Daily Harvest Flatbread! The crust of every flatbread is made of real, whole ingredients and veggies! I love the Kale + Sweet Potato Flatbread made with a Sweet Potato crust, as well as Red Cabbage, Kale, Cauliflower, Spinach, and Coriander. Just pop the Flatbread in the oven for 20-25 minutes and it’s done!
HACK: To make it much more filling, I added mozzarella and prosciutto for protein! You can also add avocado slices and salmon to make a version of an "avocado toast".
We all have a sweet tooth and I love making a healthy "banana split" with the Chocolate + Ooey, Gooey, Midnight Fudge Scoops made with Coconut, Maple, Cacao, Avocado, Pine Pollen, and Vanilla. This super fudgy, dark chocolate treat is all the feels without guilt!! Like all of their food, the DH Scoops are plant-based and dairy-free and never contain added sugar. It's the perfect nighttime snack that just hits all the spots. It's hard not to devour the entire container.
HACK: Make a banana split ice cream sundae: Slice a banana in half lengthwise. Scoop Chocolate + Ooey, Gooey, Midnight Fudge.Sprinkle with pistachio, mint, and dark-chocolate syrup!
Their Harvest Bowls are my go-to for a quick lunch or dinner. They’re loaded with greens that can assist you get nutritional vitamins and minerals without sacrificing taste. We love hacking the Spinach + Shitake Harvest Bowl, which tastes like Creamy Mushroom Grits! The Harvest Bowls are so easy to make - just pop the ingredients in the microwave or on the stovetop and it's ready in minutes.
HACK: Instead of eating it out of the bowl, I decided to make the hubby tacos. I use gluten-free cassava tortillas & vegan cheese. I also added fresh green onions and Tapatio hot sauce.
I promise you WILL NOT be disappointed with these Cacao Nib + Vanilla Bites made with Chickpea, Coconut, Cacao, Kabocha Squash, Maca, and Vanilla Bean. These are perfect for on-the-go snacking or to pop a bite in to fix your sweet tooth!
HACK: Sprinkle or Dip in dark-chocalate syrup, serve with blueberries when you need a quick snack or as deserts when hosting!
