It began about two years ago when I watched Leif wash his face with soap in the shower (the soap he used on his body, naturally). As a skincare addict, there’s nothing I find more horrific than seeing that! Then it dawned on me –– why was it that while our bathroom countertops were covered with cleansers, moisturizers, and serums—all for me—he wasn't using any of it? It's not as if the guy had perfect skin, either: he had some discoloration, dark spots, and fine lines. (I mean the guy looks ah-ma-zing for 50 but a skincare routine for men can help him look even more handsome!!).

Fortunately for Leif, I had an arsenal of beauty products for him to try! We were shopping at Nordstrom one day and I tricked him into going to the Kiehl's counter. I love Kiehl's because they combine cosmetic, pharmaceutical, herbal and medicinal knowledge with the finest ingredients!

First, I got him a gentle cleanser. Then I got him to use this Multi-Corrective Cream with SPF 30 –– products that multitaskers are great for men because they don't like a lot of steps!

Fast forward to today. Leif not only uses a moisturizing sunscreen every day, but he’s also incorporated a serum and an eye cream into his regimen.

5 Tips on How to Get Your Man on a Skincare Routine

And as someone who got her husband to apply three- to a five-step skin care regimen, some tips I’ve learned about sharing skincare with your man:

Introduce skincare in steps
Don’t bombard him with a 7-step regimen that will make his eyes glaze. With that in mind, help your man build his skincare routine by sticking to the basics and choosing dual-action products. I recommend starting with a cleanser and moisturizer with sunscreen, and adding more products as needed.
Simplified the process
In Leif words, "make it as easy as possible". He will probably do 3-4 steps but beyond that, I know it will all be lost. A product has to be easy to use, without too many steps or a special method of application.
Skincare together
The best way to get him to do his skincare is if you do it together! When I know he is brushing his teeth, I will remind and sometimes I will even apply it for him. It's a fun way to pamper your husband!
Compliment him on his skin
Compliment his glowing skin and if he thinks it's working he will want to keep up with it.
Post his routine on the mirror
As with anything we do and expect results, skincare requires consistency! But developing a routine can seem daunting if you don’t know what to do or use. Help your man out! I created a chart (see below) that you can print and tape to his mirror!

There are a whole lot of serums out there, but if you had to choose one? Go with vitamin C serum. This is a great affordable version than the Skinceuticals one I use. Step 3: Moisturize & Protect

I found this while shopping at Nordstrom a couple of years ago! This is a multi-targeted anti-aging facial cream with SPF 30! The texture of this cream is luxurious and just a small amount works wonders. He only used for daytime wear and used another moisturizer for nighttime.

At night, he uses a lightweight water cream and Kiehl’s Creamy Eye Treatment with Avocado!
