Guys, I can't believe I am sitting here writing my last blog post of 2018 (I am actually not sitting but riding my desk bike, more on that later). I just shared my favorite Champagne Cocktail Mule for NYE but come Tuesday it is all about fresh start, detox, and setting New Year's Resolutions. One major lifestyle change I want to make is to sit less and be more active throughout the day! Sitting is the new smoking and it is dubbed as the "Sitting Disease". It a catchy phrase for a sedentary lifestyle that might be putting your health at risk and it is associated with everything from cardiovascular disease to type 2 diabetes and even cancer!
Consider how much you sit in a day: driving during your morning commute to an 8-hour-a-day desk job, sitting while eating breakfast, lunch dinner, while on social media, and then unwinding on the couch in front of the television all evening. That can add up to 23 out of 24 hours off your feet. Now that is TERRIFYING to think about! We all know we need to exercise more but it is not good enough to exercise for 60 minutes a day and be sedentary for 23 hours. Which is why today, I am sharing 3 tools to help rise up against the sitting disease and keep active all day long! Think of it as a lifestyle change rather than a temporarily goal.

You've heard the term "dress for success" and this applies to the world of fitness! I work from home and it is easy to want to stay in my PJs which can lead to me feeling lazy and sloppy. But if I wake up and the first thing I do is change into my athleisure wear and wear a comfy pair of sneakers like my current fave: Reebok Classics, then I will most likely to move more and feel motivated. If you're a stay-at-home mom, be sure to get out of your comfy clothes and when running errands, wear comfy shoes so you will most likely walk more. If you have to commute to work, be sure to pack a comfy pair of shoes to walk around during your lunch break or workout clothes for after work.

The best way to combat the sitting disease is to move once an hour! But it's hard to remember to get up and move every hour so use tools to help you! You can download Stand Up! which is an App to remind you to get up and move around! The snooze is a very nice feature too if you’re not able to get up and move at the moment. Simple and effective. It can be as simple as getting up and stretching, working on your feet for 10 minutes, taking a walk around the office!
For me getting the Apple Watch was a game changer!! I am a huge Apple fan but I was so against getting an Apple Watch fearing that I will be even more attached to my devices. But I just bought one for Leif for Christmas and caved in and also bought one for myself. And wow, I am OBSESSED. My favorite feature is its Activity App which reminds us to stand up and move every hour! Apple Watch will go further than a computer prompt, because it basically sends a vibrating pulse like 'tap on the wrist' — to remind you to stand up every hour, along with a digital reminder!
I have this desk bike that can also be converted to a standing desk and I absolutely love it! Now for me, this doesn't replace my regular workout because I still go to Orange Theory and the gym to get a really, really hard and sweaty workout. But I love that not only can I actively move while on my laptop but I can turn TV time into a mini workout. It is easy to put together with only the desk to attach and it's on rollers so I can roll it into any room!
Big thanks to Reebok for sponsoring this post.
